Walk Church in June, gathers at Selling St. Mary, from where we walk to the ancient woodland – Perry Wood. We meet at Sunday 26th June, gathering outside St Mary the Virgin, Selling, ME13 9RD. 1:45pm for 2pm.
Perry Wood is an enchanting wood with a long history of human use as a woodland, and spectacular land mark trees. It sits on two banks of gravel over chalk downland, the banks of gravel rise to give spectacular views towards the Isle of Sheppy the Swale esturary, Sandwich and Wye Downs. The sand and gravel soils results in a diverse and unique ecology for Kent; including coppiced chestnut, conifer plantation and areas of heathland. One of the curiosities of this route is the “pulpit” which we’ll encounter at the summit of the bank.
Practical information: The route is 3.8miles (5.9km) long. One field is likely to have sheep. The route has no stiles, but there is a short fairly steep hill to climb and descend. Dogs are welcome provided you keep them under close control.
Parking: There is no dedicated car park at Selling Church, however there is plenty of parking on the road near the church.
Along the way we’ll make a stop for a snack and drink, please bring a drink or snack for yourself or to share.
St. Mary Selling has a toilet in the church.
