Walk Church that was – Sunday 23rd July 2023 St. Mary Stalisfied.

The profusion of wild flowers took centre stage during our walk last Sunday. The Gospel reading also had a plant theme, inviting us to reflect on the “weeds” growing amongst the wheat. We crossed a vast field of oat monoculture, but when we sat down to hear the Gospel, we were in an open, carefully coppiced woodland ride abounding in colour and teaming with insect life. There were wild raspberries and the early blackberries to feast on as well.

A strong theme of judgement ran through the Gospel reading, which too often we tend to ignore. But the unseasonably hot weather affecting much of the northern hemisphere is a reminder of nature’s judgement on our abuse of our planet. We should read it as a warning to change and attempt to live in closer harmony with nature.

Here is a link to a list of over 30 plants and wild flowers identified by Elizabeth. Let us know of those we’ve forgotten.

Our next Walk Church takes place on 27th August 2023, starting at St George Benenden.  Do join us, newcomers always welcome.
