Walk Church Sunday 24th July 2022 – Pluckley Forest

Firstly thank you to everyone who completed our Walk Church questionnaire – the results of which are very useful.  If you didn’t get a chance to complete the questionnaire yet, you can still do this, the more responses we have, the better we will be able to understand the unique make up of this congregation, and how we shape its future.  Click here to make your contribution to our survey.

Last Sunday’s walk was on a gentle warm summer’s day. We walked around The Forest in Pluckley, as well as skirting the edge of a neighbouring farm, with its huge barns already filled with hay and straw. We considered whether we regard the harvest of food as a gift from nature and God, or as something we’ve earned through the work we put in. Our Bible reading told the parable rich farmer who tore down his barns to build bigger ones for his huge harvest, and then sat back to “eat, drink and be merry” – and on that night, his soul was demanded of him. This gave more perspective about how we should regard our harvests – no one is an island.

Over tea, cakes and freshly baked drop scones cooked on our camp fire (thank you Kimmy!), we had a really useful discussion.  Thank you for everyone’s participation.

I’ll be writing up a full summary, but here are some of the key points:

  • We will create a WhatsApp Walk Church prayer group to encourage greater communication between members. Reply to this email with your mobile phone number if you want to be added to this group.
  • Walk Church works less well when the group gets too large.  We’ll work on ideas to counter this problem.
  • We will encourage financial contributions to Walk Church both to help with covering the costs and to support the wider church or similar projects.
  • We will experiment with offering walks of varied lengths – some longer, others shorter.Walk Church last Sunday, 24th June – The Forest Pluckley
