Our June meeting for Walk Church moves to a very different part of Kent. In fact, receiving notifications from French mobile networks will give you the distinct feeling that you are abroad!
Next Sunday, we gather at St Margaret of Antioch, St Margaret’s at Cliffe, near Dover. A large church with some impressive Norman arches, it is one of the oldest in the county. We have met here before, but back then the tower was enveloped in scaffolding for critical work to stop the building leaking. Now that the work is successfully complete, you can once again see the dramatic size and mass of the tower.
Our walk takes us out onto the cliffs overlooking the English Channel. At this time of year, the downland of the cliffs is full of an abundance of wildflowers, including the magical deep purple of pyramidal orchids.
The walk is just under 3 miles, but it does include some challenging climbs. We walk down close to sea level and then recover our height with a steep climb of over 200 steps, climbing about 60m (200 feet) fairly rapidly. Please consider this challenge carefully, it could be a difficult walk for some.
Once back at the church, we can look forward to some tea and cake. I look forward to sharing more details next week and hope to see you there.
