Walk Church Sunday 24th August 2025. St Peter and St Paul Appledore – TN26 2DB.

Posted: 16 August, 2025 | Category: Walks

Walk Church meets next weekend, coinciding with the Appledore Church Flower Festival, whose theme this year is “Never a dull moment”—a celebration of the diversity and beauty of creation.

Appledore lies in a tranquil spot on the edge of the old Saxon shoreline, where the land falls away onto the Romney Marsh. The village has a rich and fascinating history, much of it shrouded in mystery and conjecture.  Lying deep inland, it is hard to imagine the many dramatic moments of attack and pillage once experienced here from the sea.  Another dramatic and decisive moment came in the Middle Ages, when a series of great storms altered the course of the River Rother and cut Appledore off from the sea altogether.

Today Appledore is surrounded by golden fields, many already harvested, others still waiting to be cropped. Along the footpaths the bushes are heavy with fruit—it looks set to be a good year for blackberries. During our walk we’ll also take time to reflect on harvest.

Meet Sunday 24th Aug, 1:45 for 2pm. The walk will be relatively easy, about 3.5 miles long, but with one challenging stile set fairly high. I’ll send further practical details next week.

At the end of the walk we’ll be able to enjoy tea and cake at the Flower Festival in support of the church, which also has a toilet available.

For planning purposes, it’s really helpful to know who is intending to come. Please just email to let us know. I’ll post again next week with updated details .
