Walk Church Sunday 22nd June 2025St. Mary Brook – TN25 5PF.1:45pm for 2pm

Posted: 13 June, 2025 | Category: Walks

June’s Walk Church gathering starts from the remarkable church of St Mary, Brook, described as “one of the most complete Norman churches in England.” The church also features a number of medieval murals and a rare stone altar. For many centuries, this altar lay hidden in the churchyard, having been discarded during the Reformation. It was only rediscovered in 1966.

The walk will offer spectacular views over the Weald — but only after the fairly steep 110m ascent. The hill formations in this area are particularly striking. One notable feature we will pass is the Devil’s Kneading Trough, a well-known local landmark.

The route is 3.25 miles (5.2 km). The paths are generally easy underfoot, though the climb (110m) and descent will be challenging for some.

We’ll return to the church at the end of the walk, where tea and cake will be offered. Please note that Brook Church does not have a toilet, but the route offers plenty of cover.

It would be very helpful to know who is planning to come — just email me. Look out for more practical details next week.

We look forward to hearing from you.
